Salman Khan's ‘Maatrubhumi’ may get PUSHED to 2027; the 'Raja Shivaji' actor to have no release in 2026 – Report
Salman Khan’s ‘Maatrubhumi’ faces delay to 2027 due to Defence Ministry concerns over China references. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, it stars Chitrangada Singh, with Salman as Colonel B Santosh Babu. Salman may get no 2026 release but could have two films in 2027, including ‘SVC 63’, produced by Dil Raju.

Salman Khan‘s ‘Maatrubhumi’ remains one of the most eagerly awaited films of 2026. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, it was initially slated for an April 2026 release but got pushed back indefinitely due to reshoots and revisions to the script. Although earlier reports pointed to a release in the second half of 2026, a new report now suggests the film might instead be delayed to 2027. That would leave Salman without a single film release in 2026. Fans, however, could be compensated in 2027, with two potential releases on the cards, ‘Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace’ and ‘SVC 63’.

Salman Khan film faces Defence Ministry concerns

According to Bollywood Hungama, the delay in Maatrubhumi’s release stems from concerns raised by the Ministry of Defence regarding certain content in the film, including references to China. These issues remain unresolved so far.

Salman Khan may struggle to find a release slot

Even after the issues are resolved, bagging a prime release date won’t be easy, since several big-ticket projects of Indian cinema have already locked in the major slots. Salman Khan, meanwhile, isn’t one to court unnecessary box-office clashes with other films.

Salman Khan eyes Dussehra release window

Reports suggest Dussehra, which falls on a Tuesday (October 20), could be an ideal release window for ‘Maatrubhumi’, potentially giving the Salman Khan film the advantage of an extended five-day weekend. ‘Ramayana’ is expected to be preponed to October 30. After that, no major release is scheduled until the last week of November, which could also work in Maatrubhumi’s favour.

Other films eyeing October 16 release

Meanwhile, Rajkummar Rao‘s ‘Raftaar’ and the Emraan Hashmi-Genelia Deshmukh starrer ‘Gunmaster G9’ are reportedly slated for an October 16 release, though the makers are yet to officially confirm the date.

Salman Khan may get double release in 2027

As per the reports, the issues are not resolved soon, ‘Maatrubhumi’ will be pushed to next year. If it happens, two Salman Khan films will release in 2027. He is currently shooting for Vamshi Paidipally’s untitled film, which stars Nayanthara as the female lead.

Salman Khan plays Colonel B Santosh Babu in ‘Maatrubhumi’

‘Maatrubhumi – May War Rest In Peace’ stars Chitrangada Singh opposite Salman Khan, who essays the role of Colonel B Santosh Babu, with the story rooted in the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese forces. The makers have already dropped an announcement teaser and a handful of video songs to build excitement ahead of the release.

Salman Khan’s SVC 63 to be a grand entertainer

As for ‘SVC 63’, the film is being helmed by producer Dil Raju, with Salman Khan reportedly essaying multiple looks in this action entertainer. Dil Raju has described ‘SVC 63’ as a grand Salman vehicle packed with high-octane action, drama and emotional depth.
