Veteran Malayalam superstar Mammootty has broken his silence after winning the Best Actor award at the 72nd National Film Awards for his performance in ‘Bramayugam’. The actor took to social media to express his gratitude soon after the winners were announced. Along with thanking the makers of the film, he also congratulated several winners who were recognised across different categories.Mammootty’s performance as the mysterious Kodumon Potty in Bramayugam received widespread appreciation from audiences and critics following the film’s release.

Mammootty shares Best Actor honour with Kartik Aaryan
At the 72nd National Film Awards, the Best Actor award was shared by Mammootty for ‘Bramayugam’ and Kartik Aaryan for ‘Chandu Champion’. Meanwhile, Yami Gautam received the Best Actress honour for her performance in ‘Article 370’.The awards recognised films that were certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) during 2024. The winners were selected by an 11-member feature film jury headed by acclaimed filmmaker Jayaraj after reviewing entries from across the country.

Several films and artists emerged as major winners during this year’s ceremony. ‘Article 370’ won the award for Best Feature Film, while Rajkumar Periasamy was named Best Director for ‘Amaran’.The award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment went to ‘Kalki 2898 AD’.
Regional cinema shines with major wins
Regional cinema also enjoyed a successful outing at the awards. ‘Feminichi Fathima’ was named Best Malayalam Film, while ‘Raayan’ won the Best Tamil Film honour. In other regional categories, ‘Committee Kurrollu’ received the Best Telugu Film award, and ‘Srikanth’ was selected as the Best Hindi Film.
