Start the day off with a clean bath and wear clean, simple clothes. Clean the puja area and light a diya. Offer water, belpatra, flowers, raw milk and prayer to Lord Shiva. Chant “Om Namah Shivaya” with a quiet mind.Many devotees worship Peepal, Tulsi and other sacred plants. It is considered meaningful to give water to trees on this day. Since the festival is associated with greenery, planting a tree or looking after plants is considered a very good act.People can donate food, clothes, grains, green vegetables, or money, as per their capacity. Amavasya is widely connected with ancestor-related rituals like pitru tarpan, pind daan, feeding Brahmins and charity.
