Rajpal Yadav was given three months imprisonment in cheque bounce case in July and he was given two months to clear the debt. Now as per the latest update on the matter, after the hearing which took place on September 8, the Supreme Court has granted Yadav interim relief from surrendering, subject to him depositing Rs 5 crore with the court’s Registry by Wednesday.A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana passed the order after petitions filed by Yadav and his wife, Radha Rajpal Yadav, were orally mentioned by their advocate-on-record Saurabh Trivedi. The court issued notice and listed the matter for September 15, 2026.“Subject to deposit of Rs.5 crores by the petitioners with the Registry of this Court by tomorrow, they are granted exemption from surrendering,” the Bench ordered.The petitions challenge a July 10 order of the Delhi High Court, which upheld Yadav’s conviction in seven cheque bounce cases and sentenced him to three months of simple imprisonment in each matter.The High Court had directed that the seven sentences be served concurrently. It had also ordered Yadav to pay ₹1.05 crore in each case to the respective complainant. Of this amount, ₹1,04,75,000 was to be paid as compensation to the complainant, while ₹25,000 was to go to the State.Radha Yadav was separately directed to pay ₹5,51,380 to the complainant in each of the seven cases. The High Court also noted that ₹2.25 crore had already been paid and released to the complainant during the proceedings. That amount was to be taken into account while determining the remaining fine and compensation payable.The cases stem from disputes involving M/s Murli Projects Pvt. Ltd. and allegations concerning the dishonour of cheques issued in connection with payments linked to the actor’s production company.While upholding Yadav’s conviction, the Delhi High Court had given him two months to approach the Supreme Court against its judgment and suspended his sentence during that period. The Supreme Court’s latest order now provides him interim exemption from surrendering, subject to the Rs 5 crore deposit.
