Urvashi has spoken about the differences between her generation and today’s younger generation. The veteran actor discussed personal freedom, financial awareness and the expectations placed on women in earlier times.In an interview with Reporter Films, Urvashi reflected on how she was brought up. She said women of her generation were often expected to adjust after marriage. She also compared that experience with the greater independence enjoyed by young women today.“This generation has the freedom to express personal opinions. I didn’t have that. My mother didn’t have it at all. All of us were raised to be people who had to adjust to the families we went to after getting married.”Urvashi said the situation was different when it came to the values taught by her parents. She credited them with giving her the confidence to work and pursue acting without feeling ashamed of her profession.

Urvashi says parents encouraged her career

Despite growing up in a different social environment, Urvashi said her parents encouraged her and her siblings to work with dignity. She recalled being taught that there was nothing wrong with choosing acting as a profession. “At the same time, my father and mother gave us the freedom to do any job with our heads held high. They taught us that there was nothing wrong with an acting career.”According to Urvashi, her parents also instilled the confidence to stand up for herself. She said this helped her view acting as a respectable profession. “They gave us the courage to say that acting was not a job that we had to do with our heads bowed.”

Urvashi reveals she did not know her salary

The actor also made a surprising revelation about her financial awareness during the early years of her career. Urvashi said she did not even know how much money she was earning from her films. “Even then, I didn’t even know how much I was being paid. I never asked what was being done with the money. All my needs were taken care of.”Urvashi said her daughter belongs to a generation that has a much clearer understanding of money and personal finances. Urvashi further pointed out that today’s younger generation is more informed about their earnings and other personal matters. She said her daughter has a much better understanding of such issues.“But today, my daughter has a clear understanding of all these things,” Urvashi said.

Urvashi’s next film is ‘Aasha’

Urvashi will next appear in the Malayalam mystery thriller ‘Aasha’, which is scheduled to release in theatres on September 11, 2026.The film revolves around a single mother played by Urvashi and her daughter, portrayed by Aishwarya Lekshmi. Their lives take an unexpected turn following a road-rage incident involving a vengeful man played by Joju George. The cast also includes Vijayaraghavan. ‘Aasha’ brings together Urvashi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George and Vijayaraghavan in the mystery thriller.
