MUMBAI: In a slight worry for India conjuring the busy cricket season ahead, it has emerged that fast bowler Prasidh Krishna will miss the third and final ODI against West Indies, to be played at Mullanpur in Chandigarh on Saturday (October 3) due to a hamstring injury.Prasidh bowled only five overs (1-45) in India’s eight-wicket win in Guwahati before walking off the field. The Karnataka pacer has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury.Opening the attack, Prasidh bowled four overs initially. He returned for the 31st over for the second spell but it lasted for only one over and did not bowl again. Prasidh’s injury forced India to bowl part-timer Naman Dhir, who delivered 6.1 overs, although he too had earlier walked off the field due to a cramp. The Indian team is set to fly out of Guwahati on Thursday, but Prasidh will instead fly to Bengaluru and report to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence, where he will undergo treatment for his injury.Prasidh is not part of the five-match T20I series that follows the ODIs and will begin in Lucknow on Oct 6, and thus he has some time to recover. However, considering the fine form that he has been in the last few months, India would hope that Prasidh recovers from the injury well in time before their upcoming tour of New Zealand, which starts with the opening T20I on Oct 22.India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak confirmed after the match that Prasidh was dealing with a hamstring strain and would undergo further assessment.“Prasidh Krishna has a strain in the hamstring, he is being monitored. They will do scans and we will have an update by tomorrow evening,” Kotak said.Prasidh’s absence could pave the way for Mohammed Siraj, who has been a bit controversially ‘rested’ from the first two ODIs, to play in the final ODI, though India also have the opinion of recalling allrounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was excluded from the second ODI.
