A knife-wielding woman was shot by police after multiple people were stabbed during a violent incident inside a home in Queens, New York, on Friday night, according to police. Four people, including the woman and three men, suffered stab wounds in the incident. The incident took place at a residence on 149th Street in the Jamaica neighbourhood, with emergency services arriving at around 9:38 pm following reports of a stabbing, the New York Post reported. The woman was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition, while the injured men were taken to two different hospitals, police said.According to NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera, a wounded man inside the house told officers through a second-floor window that his uncle had stabbed him and warned them against entering the residence. The circumstances surrounding the injuries to the other victims remain unclear.Police said the woman threw keys out of a third-floor window, allowing officers to enter the house. Once inside, they heard screams coming from the third floor and rushed to a small bedroom, where they found two men and the woman involved in a struggle.Rivera said one man was sitting on the floor, another was on top of him, and the woman was on top of both men. Officers ordered all three to raise their hands, following which the individuals separated. While the two men complied, the woman refused to raise her right hand and pointed towards one of the men across the room with her left hand, Rivera said. She then moved towards the officers while holding a knife. The woman was within a few feet of the officers when one of them opened fire, hitting her. Another officer deployed a Taser after she fell to the ground, Rivera said.Officers then took the woman downstairs and performed lifesaving measures before rushing her to Jamaica Hospital. One of the injured men was also taken to the same hospital, while the other two men were transported to North Shore University Hospital.Police recovered two serrated kitchen knives at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing, and officers have cordoned off the street.A nearby resident told the New York Post that a family with teenage children lives at the house where the incident took place.Another neighbour, identified as 60-year-old Rosie, said she had never witnessed anything like the incident in her three decades living in the area.Rosie told the newspaper that she had returned from visiting her husband at a hospital in Long Island and was unable to reach her home because police had blocked the street. She described the situation as overwhelming, adding that neighbours on the block knew one another and regularly greeted each other.
