Ranbir Kapoor has spoken about the trolling around his upcoming film ‘Ramayana’, saying he prefers not to let social media comments affect him. The actor referred to the Kishore Kumar song ‘Kuch Toh Log Kahenge’ to explain his outlook, just as the film’s track ‘Mangal Rang’ faces criticism online.

Ranbir Kapoor’s take on trolling

According to the India Today report, Ranbir Kapoor was interacting with over 18,000 students from across India when the topic came up. The event was organised by the makers of the movie. He said, “I think what is relevant today is also the beauty of trolling online. It goes back to the old song, ‘Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna.’ I think that’s the great philosophy to actually follow. You don’t get bothered by what people are saying.”

Focus on people who care

Ranbir Kapoor added that he gives importance to those who truly care about him and his work. “What matters is the people. People who care for you, your work, intention, kindness, and I guess that’s what matters the most,” he said.

Earlier slip of the tongue

This is not the first time the actor has faced online scrutiny over the film. At a ‘Ramayana’ event in Kolkata, he said ‘achchai ka ant’ by mistake instead of ‘achchai ki jeet’. He later apologised for the error.

Debate over ‘Mangal Rang’

His remarks come at a time when AR Rahman has faced questions over the sound and treatment of ‘Mangal Rang’. Sung by Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal, with lyrics by Kumar Vishwas, the song shows the wedding of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita. Some listeners questioned its qawwali influences and whether the arrangement suited the setting of the epic.A section of listeners wanted the music to be more deeply rooted in Sanatan Dharma. Others felt the electronic version of the Ravana Tandava did not have the energy they expected. The lyrics were also criticised, with some asking if they matched the emotional depth and flow usually linked with Rahman’s compositions.

About ‘Ramayana’

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, ‘Ramayana’ is an ambitious two-part adaptation. Apart from Ranbir Kapoor, the film stars Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman and Yash as Ravana. The first part is set to release in theatres on November 5.
