Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has finally something to say about Christopher Nolan‘s ‘The Odyssey’, a first since the Tom Holland and Matt Damon starrer epic opened in theatres.In a social media post, Musk claimed that his AI tool Grok Imagine will make a “historically accurate” full-length film of ‘The Odyssey’ by the end of 2026.“Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer,” the tweet read, posted alongside an AI-generated clip from the Nolan film.In a reply to another post, the businessman also shared his openess to giving director Mel Gibson a USD 100 million budget to make a historically accurate retelling of the Greek epic. A netizen proposed, “I want Elon Musk to give Mel Gibson $100 million to film an Odyssey adaptation with painstakingly historically accurate ships, armour, weapons, and casting, with all dialogue taken straight from the original poem and delivered in Homeric Greek.”Reacting to the post, Musk said, “I’m down.”Notably, the remark came months after Musk criticised Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, over the casting of Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy. Reacting to the casting on social media platform X, conservative commentator Matt Walsh wrote, “Not one person on the planet actually thinks that Lupita Nyong’o is ‘the most beautiful woman in the world.’ But Christopher Nolan knows that he would be called racist if he gave ‘the most beautiful woman’ role to a white woman.”Reacting to the post, Musk commented, “True.”Early this month, prior to the release of the film, Musk shared an AI-generated trailer for ‘Iliad’—inspired by Homer’s epic tale of the Trojan War—created using xAI’s newly released Grok Imagine 1.5 video-generation model. Posting the video on his handle, he praised the technology behind the project. Responding to Musk, the twitter handle Heavy Pulp wrote, “Had a lot of fun putting this together for you all!” Musk, seemingly impressed by the results, floated a more ambitious idea, replying, “Want to make a full movie?”Based on Homer’s epic poem, ‘The Odyssey’ follows the story of Odysseus and his long journey home after the Trojan War. The film stars Matt Damon in the lead role, alongside Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron and an ensemble cast.
Mel Gibson gears up for ‘The Resurrection of Christ’ release
Meanwhile, Mel Gibson is currently working on his long-awaited biblical epic ‘The Resurrection of Christ’, the sequel to the 2004 blockbuster ‘The Passion of the Christ’.The makers announced that the sequel will be released in two parts. Part One, initially scheduled for March 2026, will now release on May 6, 2027, while Part Two will arrive on May 25, 2028. According to Variety, both films are set for release on Ascension Day, the Christian holiday commemorating the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven.“I’m deeply grateful to my incredibly talented cast and crew for pouring their hearts into this production. Together, we created something powerful,” Gibson said in a press release. He went on to add, “This film represents a major part of my life’s work, and it has demanded everything of me as a filmmaker and as an artist. This is far more than a film to me. It’s a mission I’ve carried for over 20 years to tell what I believe is the most important story in human history.“Gibson further said that reuniting with several collaborators from The Passion of the Christ helped bring his vision to life.“Reuniting with many of my original collaborators from The Passion of the Christ — true masters of their craft — allowed us to bring this story to the screen exactly as I envisioned it, with the tremendous support of my longtime partners, Adam [Fogelson] and the team at Lionsgate,” the director said, according to People.The upcoming films feature a cast including Jaakko Ohtonen, Mariela Garriga, Pier Luigi Pasino, Kasia Smutniak, Riccardo Scamarcio and Rupert Everett.

The original The Passion of the Christ, directed by Gibson and starring Jim Caviezel as Jesus Christ and Monica Bellucci as Mary Magdalene, became a global box office success upon its release 21 years ago. The film earned Academy Award nominations for Best Cinematography, Best Original Score and Best Makeup at the 77th Academy Awards in 2005.
