That is lower than the tolerance reported for some other social insects, including honeybees. Air temperatures do not tell the whole story because ground surfaces, pavement, roofs and exposed soil can become much hotter than the air.A wasp colony may therefore experience dangerous conditions even when the official air temperature appears only moderately extreme.
