However, behind the celebratory performance was a more emotional moment for the actor. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Shilpa revealed that her dance was also a way of dealing with the sadness of bidding farewell to Lord Ganesha after welcoming him home.

Shilpa Shetty Kundra acknowledged that she had noticed social media users recreating her Bappa farewell dance. She explained that dancing has always been part of the way she celebrates Ganpati, particularly during the emotional farewell.“Everybody dances. I mean, that’s the norm, right? You have to celebrate Bappa and send him with celebration. And I do it with that heart and that intent only. And while I think it’s also, in a way, trying to camouflage the sadness because it’s a dichotomy of emotions that he’s been at home, and then you have to bid him farewell. You do it in a way that makes him happy and makes your heart happy as well,” she said.For Shilpa, the celebration is therefore accompanied by contrasting emotions. While the farewell is a moment of sadness, she chooses to express that emotion through celebration and gratitude.
Actor marks her 17th year of celebrating Ganpati
Shilpa said her annual Ganpati celebrations are rooted in devotion and unconditional love. “This is my seventeenth year. It’s a time to celebrate him. And I do it with unconditional love,” she said.This year was particularly special for the actor as members of her extended family travelled from London to join the celebrations. “It was the first time that my sister-in-law, her children, my father-in-law, mother-in-law were also there,” she revealed.Shilpa also shared that her sister-in-law follows the Ganpati tradition at her home in London, making this year’s celebrations an opportunity for the family to observe the festival together.
Shilpa Shetty Kundra opts for a papier-mâché Ganpati idol
Alongside the festivities, Shilpa continued her focus on sustainability while choosing her Ganpati idol this year. She revealed that instead of her usual clay idol, she opted for one made from papier-mâché.“This time it was not clay. Usually clay becomes really heavy. It was made out of papier-mâché,” Shilpa said.The idol was crafted by the same artisans who make Lalbaugcha Raja. Shilpa explained that she had been encouraging them to explore lighter materials for some time.“I have been telling him you need to start making it lighter. So he made it for me in papier-mâché. It was even more difficult in terms of care because even if you put, like, a wet garland, it can melt it, make it soft,” she added.While the lighter idol addressed the practical difficulty of handling a heavy clay idol, Shilpa noted that papier-mâché required additional care because moisture could affect its structure.
