After the release of ‘Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva’ in 2022, the Astraverse looks set to enter its next phase, with Ranbir Kapoor and director Ayan Mukerji reportedly gearing up to reunite for ‘Brahmastra 2’. A report by Pinkvilla states that scripting and pre-production on the much-awaited sequel are currently in motion, with the film expected to build further on the mythological universe the first film introduced.Ranbir is said to be on track to complete work on Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana Part 2’ by January 2027. Following a brief prep period after that, he is expected to step into filming for ‘Brahmastra 2’ come April 2027. Alia Bhatt is also set to reprise her role as Isha, while Ayan Mukerji is reportedly in talks with Deepika Padukone to take on the role of Amruta.
Ranbir Kapoor to return as Shiva and Dev in ‘Brahmastra 2’
One of the biggest challenges awaiting Ranbir in Brahmastra 2 will reportedly be his dual role. The actor is expected to portray both Shiva and Dev, taking forward the conflict and mythology introduced in the first film. According to the report, Ranbir Kapoor is thrilled to dive back into the franchise, taking on a demanding double role as both Dev and Shiva in the upcoming sequel. The dual-role setup is expected to give the sequel a substantially larger canvas while allowing the franchise to explore the relationship between its central characters in greater depth.
Alia Bhatt to reprise Isha in ‘Brahmastra 2’
Alia Bhatt is set to return as Isha, Shiva’s love interest and an important character in the Astraverse. Her return also reunites her with Ranbir Kapoor on screen for the next chapter of Ayan Mukerji’s fantasy adventure franchise. Ayan Mukerji in talks with Deepika Padukone for Amruta
The sequel could also feature Deepika Padukone in a key role. Ayan Mukerji has reportedly initiated discussions with the actor for the part of Amruta, a character who is expected to have considerable importance in the Astraverse. As per an insider quoted in the report, Ayan Mukerji and his creative team are keen to cast Deepika Padukone, believing the character of Amruta demands an actor who can bring exceptional weight and presence to the screen. However, the discussions are still underway and an official confirmation is reportedly dependent on the actors’ schedules and overall timeline.
Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor’s work front
On the work front, Ranbir Kapoor is currently promoting Nitesh Tiwari’s magnum opus ‘Ramayana: The Introduction’, in which he plays Lord Ram. The film is scheduled for a release on November 8, 2026, coinciding with Diwali festivities. Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt was last seen in YRF’s ‘Alpha’ alongside Sharvari and Bobby Deol. She will also be seen in Sohum Shah’s ‘Tumbaad 2’ alongside Shah and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Additionally, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor will also be seen sharing screen space with Vicky Kaushal in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Love and War’.
