CBFC says Sunny Deol’s ‘Suryaa Ant Se Aarambh Tak’ has not been submitted for certification, after IMA objects to the film’s portrayal of doctors

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has made it clear that Sunny Deol’s upcoming film ‘Suryaa Ant Se Aarambh Tak’ has not yet been sent to it for certification, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) said. The clarification follows a letter from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, objecting to the film’s promotional content and the way it shows the medical profession.

What the IMA wrote to the minister

According to ANI, in its letter dated October 22, 2026, the IMA voiced serious concern over what it called the generalisation of corruption in the healthcare sector. It also objected to the depiction of violence against medical professionals and warned about the possible effect on public trust and the safety of healthcare workers.A part of the letter read, “We wish to express our serious concern regarding the portrayal of the medical profession in the film ‘SURYAA Ant Se Aarambh Tak’. Its promotional content raises concerns about the generalisation of corruption within healthcare, the depiction of violence against medical professionals, and the potential consequences for public trust and the safety of healthcare workers.”The association said the promotional material could leave viewers with the impression that corruption and unethical practices are common across the medical community. It accepted that individual cases of misconduct must be investigated and punished but said the actions of a few people should not damage the image of countless honest and dedicated doctors.

Concern over violence against healthcare workers

The IMA also pointed to scenes showing physical attacks on doctors, nursing staff and other hospital personnel, especially where such acts seem to be shown as heroic or justified. It said such scenes could make violence against medical staff seem normal and put at further risk those who already face safety challenges in hospitals. The letter added, “Scenes depicting physical assaults on doctors, nursing staff, and hospital personnel, particularly when presented as heroic or justified acts, risk normalising violence against those committed to saving lives. Doctors and healthcare personnel already face serious safety challenges in hospitals. Content that appears to glorify attacks on medical professionals may encourage hostility and further endanger those providing essential healthcare services.”

What the IMA has asked for

The IMA stressed that it does not support corruption, unethical medical practices or professional misconduct. According to the association, any wrongdoing should be dealt with through proper legal and disciplinary action. It urged the I&B Ministry to carry out an impartial review of the film’s content and its portrayal of doctors. It also asked for suitable corrective steps from the filmmakers to address the alleged generalisation of misconduct and the depiction of violence against healthcare workers. The association further requested that the government consider a ban or other fitting action, if justified under the law.

What the teaser shows

The teaser of ‘Suryaa’ was unveiled earlier this month. According to the makers, it opens against the backdrop of a deeply personal loss and presents a man who carries the scars of his past. He is then drawn into a disturbing chain of events linked to the medical system. What first looks like a personal matter slowly points to something much bigger, as Suryaa begins to question what others have accepted and discovers a shocking truth hidden beneath a seemingly legitimate system.

Cast and release date

Apart from Sunny Deol in the lead role, the film stars Ravi Kishan, Pragya Jaiswal, Tanushree Chakraborty, Manish Wadhwa, Tinu Anand, Virti Vaghani, Jisshu Sengupta, Khalid Siddiqui, Anoop Trivedi and Rohit Tiwari. ‘Suryaa Ant Se Aarambh Tak’ is scheduled to release in theatres on November 20.
