US President Donald Trump.

US President Donald Trump has launched a fresh attack on comedian Bill Maher, calling him a “complete and total loser” in a lengthy Truth Social post days after the two had dinner at the White House, an event Trump had initially described as “great”.The 1,323-word post, which CNN described as Trump’s longest-ever social media post based on an analysis, came after Maher mocked the president’s approval ratings and made jokes about him during Friday’s episode of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher.Trump began his Sunday post by attacking Maher and the comedian’s show, accusing him of dishonesty and questioning the quality of his programme. He also targeted Chuck LaBella, a longtime business partner of Maher, who previously worked on Trump’s reality television show The Apprentice.“Let’s talk about this COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER, Bill Maher,” Trump wrote, criticising the comedian’s ratings and claiming that HBO had lost the quality and popularity it once enjoyed. The president later accused Maher of using a “Laughter Machine” to generate audience reactions, arguing that viewers laughed even when the comedian’s remarks were not funny.“Bill Maher lied, but he lies about everything,” Trump wrote, before saying he would no longer watch the programme.Trump disputes Maher’s account of White House dinnerThe outburst marked a sharp shift from Trump’s public comments following his October 15 dinner with Maher, ESPN host Stephen A. Smith and musician Kid Rock at the White House. The day after the meeting, Trump had described it as a “great dinner” and said he liked Maher, adding that the comedian liked him more than people realised. However, the president’s tone changed after Maher discussed the meeting on his HBO show. The comedian joked about Trump’s approval ratings and said he had spent four hours at the White House without receiving any compliments from the president about his appearance.Trump disputed the duration of the meeting in his Truth Social post, saying it lasted around two hours or possibly less.“Overall, I thought it was a good meeting,” Trump wrote, adding that he had learned nothing from the conversation and felt it had been a waste of time.Trump also claimed that LaBella had repeatedly contacted him to arrange meetings with Maher and had told him that the comedian respected him.The president recalled their first dinner in March 2025, alleging that Maher had been nervous during the meeting and had appeared with bruising around his eye and nose. Trump also accused the comedian of being dishonest about his views.Maher, meanwhile, had used Friday’s programme to make jokes about Trump’s political standing and his comments about men’s physiques.Trump claims record Republican supportTrump also rejected Maher’s remarks about his declining approval ratings, claiming 98% to 99% support among Republicans. However, CNN’s October 21 poll put his approval rating among Republicans at 74%, a new low in the network’s polling. Trump’s figures appeared to refer to a separate poll of self-identified MAGA Republicans.Trump also threatened to have Republicans stop covering Maher, though it was unclear whether he meant Republican guests on the comedian’s show or conservative media outlets.Trump considers moving White House reportersTrump also confirmed he was considering relocating White House reporters from their longtime workspace to free up space for other uses. The 1,323-word post surpassed his previous record, a 723-word rant published in May. Factbase, which tracks Trump’s social media activity, said it was his longest-ever post across 97,455 posts dating back to 2011.Trump ended with his familiar sign-off: “Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
