Bollywood’s beloved icon of the 90s never fails to grab headlines. Back in the day, his songs and dialogues kept him in the news, and now his statements do the job. The actor, during his recent media interaction, got candid about his personal and professional life. Despite multiple extramarital allegations made against him by his wife Sunita Ahuja, Govinda claimed he was a very decent, well-behaved, and innocent man. According to him, up until his early 30s, he was so ‘shareef’ (innocent and loyal) that he regrets it.
Govinda says he regrets being shareef
Speaking to ANI, Govinda shared how his mother used to tell Sunita that he never even met other actresses because of his wife. He said, “Jis waqt ye kabhi mujhe kuch kehne lagti thi na, toh meri mummy kaha karti thi unhe, “Sunita, tumhare chakkar mein Govinda kai heroines ke saath mulaqat tak nahi karta hai. Pack-up ho jaaye toh phir ghar mein aa jaata hai.” (Whenever she would say something to me, my mother would tell her, “Sunita, because of you, Govinda doesn’t even meet many of his heroines. As soon as the pack-up happens, he comes straight home.)When the interviewer pointed out that he was married, and this was a basic expectation. He added, “Wife to bahut logon ki hua karti hai. Par imaandari se kahan log raha karte hain?” (Several people had wives, but how many people actually remain honest?)Then, emphasising how innocent he was back in the day, he said, “Main toh 33-34 ki age tak aisa shareef raha hoon ki mujhe khud sharm aati hai ki itna zyada shareef kyun raha main?” (I was so decent and well-behaved until the age of 33-34 that I feel embarrassed myself thinking about why I remained so innocent for so long).“Mithai ki dukaan mein jakar bhuke nikle, to dukhad hai (leaving hungry from a sweets shop…how tragic),” he added.
Govinda recalls being clueless in his 20s
As the conversation moved forward, Govinda further highlighted his point by mentioning that for years he didn’t understand anything. “21 se lekar 34 tak mujhe toh samajh hi nahi aaya ki ho kya raha hai. Mujhe aisa lag raha tha, “Uff, ye idhar dekh rahi hai, woh aisa ho raha hai. (From 21 to 34, I simply couldn’t understand what was happening. I would think, ‘Uff, she’s looking this way, something else is happening,'”), he expressed.

In the same interaction, Govinda also addressed Sunita’s cheating allegations and called out people’s tendency to gain fame by speaking ill about other people. At the same time, he highlighted his wife’s contribution in raising his kids and keeping the family together.
