‘Jersey’ fame Gowtam Tinnanuri is set to direct ‘MS: A Legacy On Screen’, an upcoming biopic on legendary Carnatic vocalist MS Subbulakshmi. Rashmika Mandanna is set to portray the iconic singer in the film.At the film’s launch event, Gowtam thanked MS Subbulakshmi’s family members and the Carnatic musicians who attended the special occasion. The director also spoke about the team’s journey of researching the singer’s life and how their understanding of her evolved over the past year.

Gowtam revealed that MS Subbulakshmi’s name has become a “mantra” for everyone involved with the project over the past year.“First of all, I would like to thank M.S. Subbulakshmi Amma’s family members and all the Carnatic musicians who joined us for this special occasion. For the past one year, M.S. Subbulakshmi Amma’s name has become a mantra for our entire team,” he said.

The Kingdom director said the team initially approached the project as a film about one of India’s greatest musical legends. However, their research into her life helped them discover the many facets of her personality and journey.“When we first began this project, we thought we were making a film about India’s greatest musical legend. But as we researched her life, we realized she was much more than a legendary singer. She was a daughter, an artist, a woman who dreamed big, faced victories and setbacks, and made countless sacrifices,” Gowtam said.The director further emphasised the respect and care with which the team is approaching the biopic.“Every single scene we make is being created with immense love, respect, and admiration for M.S. Subbulakshmi Amma. For all of us, being a part of this film is one of the greatest honors of our careers, and we hope this biopic reflects the affection and reverence we have for her,” he added.

‘MS: A Legacy On Screen’ was officially launched on the occasion of MS Subbulakshmi’s 110th birth anniversary. Actor Kamal Haasan attended the event and gave the first clap, marking the beginning of the biopic.Rashmika Mandanna will essay the role of MS Subbulakshmi, while Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music for the film. Gowtam Tinnanuri, known for films including ‘Jersey’ and ‘Kingdom’ is directing the project.
