Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni was overwhelmed with emotion after his team’s incredible comeback victory over Egypt national football team in the World Cup. Speaking to broadcaster TyC Sports after the final whistle, Scaloni struggled to hold back tears as he reflected on one of the tournament’s most dramatic matches. Unable to continue the interview, he apologised, wiped his eyes and walked away before later saying, “I cried because I’m too emotional. But it is true that this team will never abandon the Argentine people.”Watch:Argentina looked to be heading for a shock exit after falling 2-0 behind with just over 11 minutes of normal time remaining. Cristian Romero gave the defending champions hope with a header before Lionel Messi levelled the score four minutes later. In stoppage time, Enzo Fernández headed home the winner in the 93rd minute, completing a remarkable turnaround and sending Argentina into the quarter-finals.After the match, Scaloni said the rollercoaster game affected him just as much as it did the supporters. He explained, “I suffered as much as any fan but that is why I am a coach, to love through these moments. And that’s what I talk about with my coaching staff. For all of us who play football, these emotions are incredible,” while also revealing that his players affectionately call him “the crybaby” because of how openly he shows his emotions.
