Mohanlal and Suchitra Mohanlal have been married since 1988, and their family later grew with the birth of their son Pranav and daughter Vismaya. Both have since entered the film industry. Suchitra Mohanlal reveals how she first met Mohanlal
Speaking in an interview with Can Channel Media, Suchitra recalled that her first meeting with Mohanlal happened at a wedding. Their families were already close, giving her the opportunity to meet the actor. She was familiar with his work and, like a fan, asked to take a photograph with him. However, the picture never reached her. “I saw Mohanlal at a wedding. Our families were already close to each other. I saw him there and took a photo with him, but I have never received that photograph,” Suchitra said. The meeting nevertheless stayed in her mind. When she later expressed her wish to marry Mohanlal, her family did not oppose her decision. The relationship soon moved forward with the support of both families.
Mohanlal’s wife recalls her father’s strong warning
Suchitra’s father, however, wanted her to understand what married life with an actor could involve. He warned her that Mohanlal’s shooting schedules could keep him away from home for several days. “When I told my family that I wanted to marry Mohanlal, nobody objected. But my father gave me some advice and warnings. He told me, ‘Mohanlal will be away from home for many days because of shooting. Keep all these things in mind in your married life. If you marry an actor and later return home because of the problems that come with it, I will not accept it,’” she recalled. Suchitra said she accepted those realities after marriage. There were occasions when Mohanlal’s work kept them apart for several days, but she never treated it as a complaint because she understood that it was part of his profession.
Suchitra says Mohanlal never failed to respect her
Suchitra also shared a sweet exchange between her father and Mohanlal after their wedding. Her father once told the actor that he had spoiled his daughter by taking such good care of her. Mohanlal responded with humility. “My father told Mohanlal, ‘By taking such good care of my daughter, you have spoiled her.’ Mohanlal replied, ‘Whatever it is, I cannot take care of your daughter as well as you do,’” Suchitra said. She added that Mohanlal has always given her the respect she deserves. Her recollections offer a rare look at the personal side of their marriage, showing how they built their relationship around understanding the demands of cinema.
