Kristen Wiig has relisted a modernist house in Pasadena just four months after purchasing it for $5.5 million. The property, set among mature oak and sycamore trees in Los Angeles’ San Rafael neighbourhood, combines California modernism with traditional Japanese architectural influences. Designed in 1965 by architects Ainsworth, Angel & McClellan, the house features redwood-lined interiors, travertine floors and expansive glass walls. Landscape architect Kenneth S. Nakaba designed the surrounding gardens, which extend across almost half an acre. According to The Spaces, Wiig initially returned the property to the market with an $800,000 markup.

Kristen Wiig’s Pasadena house combines California modernism with Japanese design

The 1965 residence reflects a blend of California modernism and traditional Japanese architecture. Designed by Ainsworth, Angel & McClellan, the house sits within a secluded, tree-filled setting in San Rafael. Its interiors feature redwood-lined spaces, travertine flooring, original wood-panelled ceilings and built-in joinery. A raised-hearth fireplace preserves another distinctive architectural feature, while expansive windows bring views of the surrounding landscape into the living areas. The design maintains a close relationship between the interior and the outdoors, with a wraparound deck extending from the main living spaces.

A suspended walkway leads into the three-level modernist residence

Access to the house begins with a suspended walkway that passes through the surrounding tree canopy before reaching the entrance. Inside, the living spaces unfold across three levels, with large windows framing the mature vegetation outside. The main living areas open onto a wraparound deck, reinforcing the connection between the house and its landscaped surroundings. The property also includes a primary suite in its own private wing, complete with a sitting area and a bathroom illuminated by a skylight. These features, alongside the preserved wood ceilings and built-in furnishings, contribute to the residence’s distinctive mid-century character.

Kenneth S Nakaba’s gardens include a swimming pool and separate guest quarters

The grounds were designed by landscape architect Kenneth S Nakaba and occupy almost half an acre of densely planted land. Winding garden paths pass through the vegetation, while a freeform swimming pool and an inset spa provide additional outdoor amenities. The property also has separate guest accommodation, comprising a living room, dining area, kitchen and bedroom. This arrangement gives the residence spaces for visitors beyond the main house, while the landscaped grounds provide a secluded setting beneath the mature trees. The combination of gardens, pool and independent guest quarters adds to the property’s range of indoor and outdoor living spaces.

Kristen Wiig’s Pasadena home returns to the market after four months

Wiig bought the Pasadena house for $5.5 million in February 2026 and initially listed it for $6.3 million in May, according to The Spaces and Robb Report. The initial asking price represented an $800,000 increase over her purchase price. The property was marketed through Maisonre and Christie’s International Real Estate. However, subsequent coverage by Robb Report and Mansion Global reported that the asking price had been reduced after the initial listing. The price change highlights the distinction between the amount a seller hopes to receive and the eventual sale price. The property’s brief period under Wiig’s ownership has drawn attention to the actress’s latest move in the Pasadena real estate market.
