Mercedes-Benz India recently launched the new Mercedes-Benz CLA electric in the Indian market, priced from Rs 55 lakh (ex-showroom). By this, the new CLA EV is now the most affordable Mercedes-Benz you can buy in the Indian market. Pre-bookings for the EV are already underway; interested customers can book online or visit their nearest dealership. Mercedes says it has already received over 400 bookings. In this article, let’s compare the new Mercedes-Benz CLA EV with the BYD Seal electric.

Mercedes-Benz CLA vs BYD Seal: Price, VariantsThe new Mercedes-Benz CLA is available in three variants: CLA 200 Standard Range Progressive Line, priced at Rs 55 lakh, and CLA 250+ Long Range AMG Line, priced at Rs 59 lakh. There’s also the CLA 250+ Long Range Launch Edition, which will be offered in limited numbers and is priced at Rs 64 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).The BYD Seal is also offered in three variants – Dynamic priced at Rs 41 lakh, Premium priced at Rs 45.7 lakh and Premium Performance priced at Rs 53.15 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). The CLA is priced higher overall, ranging from Rs 55 lakh to Rs 64 lakh. In comparison, the BYD Seal is priced between Rs 41 lakh and Rs 53.15 lakh, making it the more affordable option across variants, while the CLA is positioned at a more premium level.

Mercedes-Benz CLA vs BYD Seal: DimensionsComparing the dimensions next, the Seal measures 4,800 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,460 mm in height, with a 2,920 mm wheelbase. The new Mercedes-Benz CLA measures 4,723 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, and 1,468 mm in height, with a longer wheelbase of 2,790 mm. The BYD Seal is 77mm longer, 20mm wider and has a 130mm longer wheelbase, while the Mercedes-Benz CLA is 8mm taller.Mercedes-Benz CLA vs BYD Seal: Battery, range The CLA electric gets two battery pack options – an 85kWh NMC battery pack paired with a rear-mounted electric motor, which produces 272hp and 335Nm, and has a claimed 0-100kph time of 6.7 seconds. It has a WLTP-claimed range of up to 792km, and it also gets a two-speed gearbox. Another option is a 58kWh battery with a WLTP-claimed range of up to 542km. It is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor producing 224hp and 335Nm, with a claimed 0-100kph time of 7.5 seconds. The CLA EV supports fast charging at up to 320kW through its 800V architecture, enabling a 300km range top-up in 10 minutes. Mercedes has also increased ground clearance and revised the suspension for Indian conditions.Talking about the Seal EV, it’s offered with two battery pack options – a 61.4 kWh LFP Blade battery paired with a single 204 hp electric motor which sends power to the rear wheels. The EV offers a claimed range of up to 510 km on one full charge. Another battery pack is a larger 82.5 kWh battery pack paired with a single electric motor which puts out 313 hp of power. The motor sends power to the rear wheels and has a claimed range of 650 km in one full charge. The top-of-the-line AWD Performance variant is powered by an 82.5 kWh battery pack paired with dual motors which send power to all four wheels. The electric motors produce a combined 530 hp of power and have a claimed range of up to 580 km on one full charge.Mercedes-Benz CLA vs BYD Seal: FeaturesMoving inside, the CLA electric features a minimalist, screen-focused cabin that prioritises technology and usability. The highlight of the cabin is a dual-screen layout consisting of a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The cabin features a three-spoke steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls, while a carbon-fibre finish on the centre console adds a sportier visual touch. Features include 64-colour ambient lighting, a 16-speaker Burmester sound system with Dolby Atmos, heated, ventilated and powered front seats, wireless charging, six 100W USB-C fast-charging ports, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, connected car tech, latest MBUX with Ai integration and more.The BYD Seal features a rotating 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, powered and climate-controlled front seats, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, leather upholstery and 19-inch alloy wheels.
