With ‘Ramayana‘ starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, gearing up for its theatrical release, producer Namit Malhotra was asked about another ambitious project while on the red carpet at the LA premiere. The producer, who has won over fans for his vision in turning the Indian epic into a Hollywood-style saga, was quizzed about the popular fan theory — an adaptation of the ‘Mahabharata’ with filmmaker SS Rajamouli.During a conversation on the red carpet with a reviewer, Malhotra was told that ‘Ramayana’ was expected to be a hit and asked about his next big venture. The video sees the man asking Malhotra, “When are you making ‘Mahabharata’ with SS Rajamouli?” The suggestion prompted a laugh from the producer, who responded warmly, saying, “He’s a legendary director. I wish him lots of success.”When he was urged to work with Rajamouli on the epic, Malhotra replied, “It’s time for all of our Indian cinema to succeed.”Producer Namit Malhotra is expanding his multi-part Ramayana film adaptation into a massive, interconnected mythological cinematic universe. Last week, reports confirmed that the producer will soon be rolling out spin-off films and other standalone projects with Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman and with characters featuring in the Ramayana, like Surpanakha, Jatayu, Indrajit, and another on Angad. While Malhotra did not confirm a project with Ramajouli, the two have publicly expressed mutual respect, fuelling speculation among fans about a possible future collaboration, especially the Mahabharata.Rajamouli recently praised the scale and ambition of Nitesh Tiwari and Malhotra’s upcoming film, prompting Malhotra to respond, “garu thank you so much for your words of encouragement. Like you, we are also doing our best to put our cinema on the world stage. Here’s wishing you and team #Varanasi the very best to take over the world.”However, no official announcement has been made regarding a collaboration between the two.Meanwhile, Malhotra’s ‘Ramayana’, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is set for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5. The second instalment is slated for a Diwali 2027 release.
