WWE star Natalie Eva Marie says her marriage to Jonathan Coyle felt like a business partnership as she embraces a fresh start.

WWE alum and Total Divas star Natalie Eva Marie is officially single after quietly finalising her divorce from Jonathan Coyle in August 2025. The 42-year-old recently opened up about the end of their decade-long marriage in a recent interview, explaining why the process felt much longer than a year and how she is embracing a new chapter in her life.“It feels like so much longer than a year,” Marie told Page Six, describing the emotional and practical aspects of ending a marriage. She explained that filing for divorce was only the beginning, followed by legal proceedings and other responsibilities, including selling their marital home in Texas.“You have your initial process of filing and then figuring it out. Then you’re going through lawyers and all this stuff,” she said. “So it feels like it’s not really surreal to me because I had to also sell the [marital house in Texas] and do all of these other little things to really solidify on paper that we were technically divorced.”

Natalie Eva Marie says changing her last name was difficult

Marie said she was thankful that she and Coyle did not have children together, acknowledging that co-parenting could have made the separation more complicated and emotionally demanding.“My compassion towards anybody going through it, regardless if you’re amicable or not, it’s just a lot of stuff that you don’t really think about,” she said. “Even going through changing my last name was a bitch and a half.”The former WWE star said Coyle, 44, was not particularly pleased about her decision to drop her married surname. However, she insisted on reclaiming her name, describing it as an important step towards establishing her identity and embracing a fresh start.Marie filed for divorce in December 2024 after 10 years of marriage, stating in her petition that the couple had been separated since October 2024. Asked what led to the split, she told the outlet that it was “a combination of many things”.

Why Natalie Eva Marie and Jonathan Coyle decided to separate

Marie explained that major changes in her professional life and turning 40 prompted her to reassess what she wanted from her future. After two stints in WWE spanning nearly five years, alongside appearances on the reality series Total Divas, she moved towards a career focused on recovery and addiction awareness. In 2023, Marie joined the Hopeaholics podcast as a co-host and opened the NEM Recovery Center in Laguna Beach, California. The career shift also brought her from Texas back to California, helping her reflect on her personal life. She said the changes “set the ball in motion” for an unexpected realisation about her marriage. Marie explained that while she and Coyle got along well, their relationship had begun to resemble a business partnership rather than the romantic connection she wanted.“You only have one life, and you know, with my marriage, we were like business partners,” she said.Marie compared her relationship with Coyle to the kind of enduring partnership her parents had shared during their 53-year marriage. She said she came to understand that being comfortable and getting along were not necessarily enough to make a marriage fulfilling.“I really felt like Jonathan and I were doing a disservice to one another because we just had a very transactional business relationship. We got along, we were totally best of buddies, but that’s not really what a marriage is, nor should it be, nor is that what I wanted it to be,” she explained. The former wrestler said she wanted to live life to the fullest while being honest and happy, and wanted Coyle to have the same opportunity. She also clarified that their separation did not follow a single dramatic incident.“There wasn’t this massive turning point of, like, turmoil,” she said, adding that remaining in a comfortable situation could leave people feeling unfulfilled.

Natalie Eva Marie on her equation with ex-husband Jonathan Coyle

Marie has largely kept the divorce private and was careful when asked whether she and Coyle were now on good, amicable, neutral or bad terms.“I wish him well – over there,” she said. “There’s no real bad blood in me, but it’s not like we’re best friends or I’m calling him up.”Despite having cameras document their relationship and wedding, Marie does not believe reality television damaged her marriage. Instead, she said she remains grateful for that phase of her life because it helped her grow, confront her struggles and connect with viewers who related to her experiences.

Natalie Eva Marie focuses on new venture after divorce

Although Marie said she would return to the wrestling ring or reality television “in a heartbeat”, her current focus is on Passes, a subscription-based social media platform that allows creators to earn revenue directly from their fan communities. She is also auctioning the pink outfit she wore at SummerSlam 2021, with a portion of the proceeds set to benefit her recovery centre. Marie hopes the initiative will help someone access treatment.
