Rajkumar Periyasamy on Om title

Following the monumental box office success of Amaran, director Rajkumar Periyasamy has officially launched his highly anticipated next venture, OM, starring powerhouse performer Dhanush. While the star-studded announcement featuring a dream ensemble cast including Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, and Sreeleela, sent shockwaves of excitement through Indian cinema, it quickly triggered intense online debate. At a recent title launch event in Chennai, the filmmaker actively broke his silence regarding the ‘OM’ title controversy linked to the 1995 Kannada cult classic, while directly shutting down viral social media comparisons to Allu Arjun’s ‘Pushpa.’

Rajkumar Periyasamy clarifies the ‘OM’ title controversy

At the title launch event in Chennai, Rajkumar Periyasamy addressed questions about the film sharing its title with the 1995 Kannada blockbuster ‘Om,’ starring Shiva Rajkumar. As reported by Filmibeat, the director dismissed any controversy surrounding the title choice. “I finalized the title ‘OM’ while writing the script itself. There is no controversy behind it. Many filmmakers today reuse titles that have been used before, and this is no different,” he said. He also pointed out that even ‘Amaran’ carried a title that had been used earlier, adding that the focus should always remain on the story rather than the title.

Director responds to ‘Pushpa’ comparison questions

The glimpse video also led to comparisons with ‘Pushpa: The Rise,’ as both appeared to feature forest-based settings and workers involved in tree-cutting activities. Responding to those observations, Rajkumar said, “What you have seen is only an introductory glimpse. There is absolutely no connection between that film and ‘OM.’” Our film has many layers, and audiences will understand its world as more updates are released.” He stressed that the teaser was designed only to introduce the film’s atmosphere and not reveal its actual narrative.

High expectations for ‘OM’ after Amaran’s success

Rajkumar Periyasamy also expressed confidence in the performances delivered by the cast. “Dhanush sir, Mammootty sir, Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela have all done a fantastic job. As we reveal more about the film, people will understand what makes OM special,” he said.

More about ‘OM’

Alongside Dhanush, the film boasts a strong ensemble cast led by Malayalam cinema icon Mammootty, whose presence has added significant excitement to the project. Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela play pivotal roles, while rising music composer Sai Abhyankkar is in charge of the soundtrack. ‘OM’ is slated to release on October 10, 2026.
