Just minutes before taking the stage for the highly anticipated ‘Ramayana‘ panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, producer Namit Malhotra announced that the film’s trailer would no longer receive its planned global release on July 24.The update came as a surprise to fans who had been expecting the trailer to debut online following its exclusive Comic-Con presentation. Instead, Malhotra revealed that the worldwide trailer launch set for Thursday morning, had now been deferred.Taking to his social media handles, the producer wrote, “Today is a very special moment for our Ramayana. My dream of taking Ramayana to the world is now a reality with our partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment.”He continued, “In light of the above, we will be launching our trailer globally at a later date.”Highlighting the film’s global ambitions, Malhotra added, “In over 100 years of Indian cinema, this will become a moment of great pride, where Ramayana will be shown to the entire world like any major global Hollywood film. This is special as it opens the door for people around the world to discover the richness of our culture and our stories with renewed pride and enthusiasm.”While Malhotra did not explicitly state the reason behind the postponement of the trailer launch, his statement came amid global attention on the student protests in India, leading many to speculate that the decision was made in light of the tense situation. In his closing lines, Malhotra appeared to acknowledge the ‘youth’ of the country saying, “I thank all the fans and the believers of Ramayana for helping make this happen. The youth of our country are our future. Let’s all do the best we can to protect our future.”He concluded the message with, “Jai Hind.”The announcement came shortly before Malhotra, director Nitesh Tiwari, and lead stars Ranbir Kapoor and Yash were scheduled to appear at Ballroom 20 during San Diego Comic-Con. The hour-long panel, hosted by Coy Jandreau, is expected to feature exclusive footage from the film, with attendees getting the first look at the trailer and glimpses of the ambitious epic retelling.‘Ramayana’ has been one of Comic-Con’s biggest international showcases this year and also received a special mention under the event’s “Indian Highlight.”Initial reports indicated that the film’s trailer was set to release at 10 am IST with PVR Pictures’ official page listing the trailer release date and time. A revised release date for the trailer is still awaited. With Sony Pictures now on board, it remains to be seen if the clip will now arrive next week, to coincide with the release of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. The Tom Holland starrer is already tracking a mammoth opening at the Indian and global box office for its release on July 30, prompting buzz that the trailer may just be attached with the film, for fans to watch it on the big screens.
