Actor Ravi Mohan has reportedly moved the Madras High Court over a dispute linked to his upcoming movie ‘Bro Club’. He accused producer Shruthi Nallappa of defaming him by sending communications to Netflix and organisations connected to the film industry. As The Hindu reported, the court took note of Ravi Mohan’s plea. Justice K. Govindarajan Thilakavadi issued notice to Shruthi Nallappa. The producer must respond to the allegations. The case is scheduled for another hearing on August 25.

How did the ‘Bro Club’ dispute begin?

The legal dispute is connected to the production history of ‘Bro Club’. The project was initially known as ‘Bro Code’. According to Ravi Mohan’s counsel, Miracle Movies, headed by Shruthi Nallappa, was originally expected to produce the movie. Ravi Mohan was signed as one of the leads in the multi-starrer. The cast also includes S.J. Suryah and Arjun Ashokan. The production plan later underwent a change.Ravi Mohan subsequently took over the production through his own banner, Ravi Mohan Studios. Miracle Movies reportedly agreed to the new arrangement. However, disagreements later emerged over expenses incurred during the early stages of production, reportedly.

Producer raises issue over alleged dues

The dispute reportedly centres on pre-production costs that Shruthi Nallappa allegedly spent on the project. The producer is said to have claimed that the expenses were yet to be cleared. Ravi Mohan’s legal team told the court that Shruthi Nallappa then contacted several third parties about the alleged dues. Netflix and the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce were among the organisations reportedly approached by the producer.A communication sent to the OTT platform allegedly sought a halt to further payments related to the movie’s digital rights. The request was reportedly linked to the alleged outstanding amount and interest. The OTT platform subsequently forwarded the communication to Ravi Mohan Studios. The streaming platform also reportedly asked the production house to resolve any third-party claims. It also sought protection against possible claims or damages arising from the dispute.

Ravi Mohan’s defamation allegation

As reported by Outlook India, senior counsel R. Parthasarathy appeared for Ravi Mohan before the Madras High Court. He argued that Shruthi Nallappa could have pursued legal action if she believed that money was owed to her. Instead, Ravi Mohan’s side alleged that the producer’s communications to third parties damaged the actor and his production company’s reputation.“It is an admitted fact that I have become the producer of the movie, but she is going about writing to Netflix, the film chamber of commerce, and others, defaming me. What right does she have to do this?”, the senior counsel reportedly told the court. The Madras High Court has not made any final determination on the allegations. Shruthi Nallappa’s response is expected during the next hearing.

Earlier ‘Bro Code’ title dispute

The latest case follows another legal dispute connected to the title of the project.
