On Wednesday, the film that has been on a record-breaking spree, reportedly overtook 2015’s ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ to become the highest-grossing film of all time at the North American box office.

After 47 days in theatres, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has now crossed that milestone with its estimated total now standing at approximately USD 936.773 million in North America.The current top five highest-grossing films in the US, are ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ estimated at USD 936.7 million. It beat out the long-standing record of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ which earned a lifetime collection of USD 936.6 million. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ stands third with a collection of USD 8.58.3 million. Another Tom Holland starrer – ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ – occupies the fourth spot with a collection of USD 814.8 million and ‘Avatar’ rounds up the Top 5, with a collection of USD 785.2 million.

Reacting to Spider-Man breaking the record, Lucas Films, took to the official ‘Star Wars’ handle and posted a message, congratulating the team. The message read, “Impressive. Most Impressive. From a galaxy far, far away, everyone at Lucasfilm sends massive congratulations to Destin, Tom, everyone at Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios and the entire team behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day on setting a new domestic box office record and taking the crown from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The next major milestone for the Marvel-Sony release is the USD 1 billion mark at the North American box office. However, with the film already well into its theatrical run, reaching that figure could depend on how strongly it continues to perform in the coming weeks, or potentially on a future re-release.Globally, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has reportedly grossed approximately USD 2.45 billion, placing it among the highest-grossing films of all time.

The fourth solo Spider-Man film starring Holland has been on a strong run since its release in late July.
