What happened to Matt Reeves?

Reeves, who directed the first ‘Batman’ reboot film with Pattinson in 2017, had been confirmed to helm the upcoming sequel months ago. However, earlier this month, the production studios behind the ‘The Batman’ movies announced that due to “personal reasons,” Reeves is stepping away from the project.Their official statement about the matter read, “Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter. Matt has the full support of DC Studios, and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.” At the time, fans had been left unsure about the film’s future and who will continue the superhero vigilante’s legacy.Reeves had also issued his own statement on X (formerly known as Twitter) about how he is not leaving the project completely. His post read, “Just to be clear, I am not leaving The Batman Part II. I am profoundly grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this challenging time to help me finish principal photography. Thank you to all for your concern and well wishes.”The DC Universe movie has already faced multiple delays, as earlier this year the release date was shifted from October 2026 to October 2027. However, the slated release date for the movie has been now scheduled for February 18, 2028.
