As a gesture of appreciation, Sun Pictures head Kalanithi Maran gifted brand-new BMW cars to filmmaker Arun Matheswaran, actor Lokesh Kanagaraj and music composer Anirudh Ravichander. However, the gesture also sparked a discussion online, with several fans questioning why Wamiqa Gabbi, who played a pivotal role in the film, was not among those honoured with a car.

On Thursday evening, the makers shared a video on X showing Kalanithi Maran presenting the keys to brand-new BMW cars to Arun Matheswaran, Lokesh Kanagaraj and Anirudh Ravichander following the film’s success. Sun Pictures shared the video with the caption, “Mr. Kalanithi Maran congratulated and presented the keys to brand-new BMW cars to Arun Matheswaran, Lokesh Kanagaraj and Anirudh, for the success of Blockbuster #DC!”The gesture was met with celebrations from fans, who congratulated the director, actor and composer for the film’s success.
Fans ask why Wamiqa Gabbi was not included
While many fans celebrated the recognition given to the key members of the ‘DC’ team, some Wamiqa Gabbi fans expressed disappointment over the actress not appearing in the video or receiving a similar gift. Wamiqa played Chandra, an exploited sex worker whose character forms an important part of the film’s narrative. Her performance also drew attention from audiences, prompting some fans to argue that she deserved greater recognition.One fan reposted the video on X and wrote, “no car for wamiqa…are you for real right now?”
Another user wrote, “Wamiqa ku oru scooty achu vangi kuduthurukalam. (They could have at least bought Wamiqa a scooty.)”Another fan questioned the lack of acknowledgement for the actress, writing, “There was no mention of #Wamika at all… not even a passing one, despite her being the soul of the film DC. She, too, deserved a car and due acknowledgment.”
Another user pointed out that Sanjana Krishnamoorthy, who played bar singer Parvathy, was also not among those who received a gift, writing, “Not even single gift for wamiqa or sanjana.”\
‘DC’ plot and box office collection
‘DC’ was primarily released in Tamil before also reaching Telugu-speaking audiences. According to Sacnilk, the film has minted over Rs 103.06 crore in total gross collections. The film features Lokesh Kanagaraj as outlaw Devadas, also known as Das, with Wamiqa Gabbi playing Chandra and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy as Parvathy. The story follows Das and Chandra as they take on corrupt police officers following the deaths of innocent people.
