Why did Yash choose to play Ravana?

In the video Yash reveals that his friends and family questioned his decision to play Ravana, a character traditionally associated with evil. However, the actor believed that being part of the epic was more important than his stardom. He said that Ramayana is their story and that nobody is bigger than the epic.“None of my friends or family to everybody were like, why do you want to play Ravana? As a producer, I wanted to make Ramayana because it’s our story, but as an actor, I wanted to play Ravana. The only challenge was people thought, okay, you are loved by people and if you’re doing a character which is so much hated, people won’t be able to really celebrate you also, appreciate you also. I said, yeah, but that’s how the story should be. Because I know the stardom and all of these things are fine, but by the end of the day, none of us are bigger than Ramayana,” Yash said.Yash also explained that Ravana cannot be seen as a straightforward villain. He described Rama as the heart and Ravana as the brain, mentioning the conflict between the mind and the heart.Yash further added, “The moment Namit and I jammed and we started discussing, both of us had a similar dream and then that clicked there. I think that was the starting point for me. And also the moment I wore those costumes, I don’t know, something about the crown. The moment I wore it, I kind of felt like I’m Ravana.”The makers also explore Ravana’s different sides. Apart from being a powerful warrior, he was a great astrologer and a devoted Shivabhakt as shared by the director.
