The singer was due to perform at an event in Ajman just hours before his death, as reported by Gulf News.Born Nissar Aroth Ibrahim, the 44-year-old singer was widely recognised for his voice, which closely resembled that of popular Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan. He was popularly known by his stage name, Nisar Wayanad. The name also reflected his roots in Wayanad, Kerala.Nisar Wayanad had been a familiar name among Malayali communities in the UAE. He regularly performed at musical programmes and community events in Dubai. His ability to recreate Udit Narayan’s voice became one of the defining aspects of his stage performances. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Nisar Wayanad was hospitalised after high fever
As reported by Gulf News website, according to Nisar Wayanad’s friends in Dubai, the singer developed a high fever on Saturday afternoon. He was subsequently taken to a hospital in Dubai for treatment. Reports stated that the death notification listed “acidosis” as the direct cause of death. His passing occurred on the same day he was expected to perform in Ajman.
Nisar Wayanad had admired Udit Narayan
Nisar Wayanad had never hidden his admiration for Udit Narayan. His love for the veteran playback singer was also evident from an old social media post.In the post, Nisar Wayanad recalled the moment he finally met Udit Narayan after waiting for two decades.“A dream I’ve held onto for so many years has finally come true… My love for Udit Narayan sir’s songs is beyond words.From as far back as I can remember, I’ve been his biggest fan…I waited 20 years for this moment—to meet him in person and give him a heartfelt hug/kiss… Today, I am truly happy.A moment I will cherish forever…”
Nisar Wayanad performed across Dubai
Nisar Wayanad was often introduced as a Mappilapattu singer. However, his musical repertoire was broader than the traditional folk genre from Kerala.He performed songs in different styles and was especially known for Bollywood numbers. His resemblance to Udit Narayan’s voice helped him stand out during live shows.
Afsal remembers Nisar Wayanad as a dear friend
Following the news of his death, Malayalam playback singer Afsal paid tribute to Nisar Wayanad on social media. Afsal remembered him as a “dear friend”.Nisar Wayanad’s career was not restricted to stage performances. He had also explored opportunities in the film industry and lent his voice to a Kannada film. He was also reportedly associated with the Malayalam movie ‘Professor Dinkan’.
